When you were first approached about advertising on
cinema, what were your thoughts? Did you have reservations, what
was your impression of the cinema environment?
...When I was first approached in regards to advertising
on cinema I was excited as I quiet often frequented cinemas and
always wondered how one would go about advertising on the big
screen. The only reservation I had was the potential cost. However,
this turned out to be quiet reasonable, affordable and worthwhile
even in the earlier stages of owning my own business, where we were
still establishing a name for ourselves, being the fourth of four
Pharmacies on the Parade to trade. I felt at that time that the
shopping centre advertising that we were involved intended to focus
more so on the Food trade within the centre and felt that we were
being overlooked by the customers as they were so used to shopping
at the other three Pharmacies, all being well established
businesses. Cineads offered me exclusive cinema advertising which
was quiet diverse to all of the other advertising I had done in the
past and I was confident that it would be a great advantage.
What does it mean for you when you see your ad on the
big screen?
...I'm proud of my decision to advertise on cinema as it
captures both ends of the spectrum in terms of the viewing audience
i.e. from the very young right through to the elderly. Being
continuously advertised within a community setting establishes you
as part of the community as people tend to recognise you and
approach you having seen your image on the big screen, you
now share a connection. People's perception (especially children)
is as though you are a community celebrity. I would say it is the
equivalent to being advertised on television. The ad is displayed
in a large enclosed environment away from distractions where you
have the audiences undivided attention as they eagerly anticipate
the movie they came to view and enjoy, within a surround sound type
setting. You will endeavour to become a point of discussion amongst
the community and even your friends and family as people link the
ad with the physical presence of your business and/or yourself.
How long has cinema advertising been a part of your
media mix??
...I cannot remember exactly how long cinema advertising has
been part of my media mix, I would say approximately four to five
years.
How important is the 'Category Exclusivity' to your
business and marketing strategy?
...Having "Category Exclusivity" is a real positive advantage,
especially during this period of economic downturn we are facing
which makes it difficult to sustain, let alone grow a business. It
has offered my business a point of difference to the other three
Pharmacies on the Parade. I believe it is a modern, appealing and
fun way to advertise your business. In my view most of us enjoy
sharing a night out with family and/or friends visiting your local
cinema complex as it offers a chance to forget about life for a
little while and escape into the fantasy world of an entertaining
movie, all within a safe and inexpensive environment. I find it
very therapeutic.
What would you say to a business owner who is considering
cinema advertising?
...To a business owner considering cinema advertising, let me
say that it's a different, appealing, fashionable and fun way of
advertising your business to a wide range of people. You'll be
amazed at the connections you will make with those that viewed it
and you'll establish yourself as a recognisable figure within your
local community which is really rewarding. The consistent guidance
and support from cineads throughout my advertising campaign has
been truly fantastic. Myself and the staff at Priceline Pharmacy
Norwood have enjoyed working together with CINEads over the years
and we will continue to do so in the future.
